What do prairie dog burrows and airplane wings have in common? Section one of this CD-ROM traces the history of aerodynamics, highlighting the contributions of Leonardo da Vinci, Isaac Newton, the Wright brothers, and others. In section two, the aerodynamics of the natural world are explored using familiar weather phenomena to provide insights into convection, turbulence, and vortex mechanics, while examples of air flow through static structures, such as termite mounds, and around moving bodies, like a flying bat, illustrate aerodynamics fundamentals. And section three spotlights how engineers have applied these lessons, drawn from nature, to the automotive industry. A Cambridge Educational Production.
