This program is devoted to the analysis and development of the possibilities for living in and utilizing space. Beginning with the Skylab project that launched an unmanned orbital workshop, the program covers a host of experiments conducted in the U.S. and by Spacelab, its European counterpart, which include astronomical observation, observation of the Earth, biological and biochemical testing, and material processing, as well as tests on human beings to determine the effects of weightlessness and the possibilities for working outside the laboratory in space.
