The British Museum houses one of the finest collections of Oriental art on display in the Western world. This program takes us through works from China: bronze ritual vessels, exquisite ceramics, as well as other works from many periods. It shows Japanese lacquers, watercolors, woodcuts; Indian artworks from the third millennium BC, through Hindu and Buddhist art of many ages; from the paintings of the Ajanta caves to Moghul miniatures; Buddhist art of Nepal, Ceylon, Burma, and Cambodia (including Angkor Wat); Islamic art of the Middle East, in some of its most superbly executed shapes and decorations; and contemporary "primitive" art of Indonesia.
