Of the approximately four million babies born each year in the U.S., nearly one quarter are delivered by cesarean section. The C-section enables safe delivery in cases where complications such as a breech position present dangers to mother or child. In this technique, the baby is removed through an incision made in the lower abdomen. Dr. Nancy Chescheir, Director of Prenatal Diagnostics at the University of North Carolina Hospital, performs a C-section delivery, providing a detailed description of each stage of the operation and using modern medicine to assist with the greatest human miracle. A Discovery Channel Production. (45 minutes)
