His primary, all-encompassing goal was to give shape in the air to the sound in his head. The relationship between this overriding drive to communicate music and his audiences—from concert-goers to zoo elephants—is the theme connecting this compilation of Glenn Gould film clips. Some date from his early years and others from near the end of his life; some are black-and-white and others in color; some show him thoughtful, others playful. Always, however, this carefully structured program retains its focus on the musical center of Glenn Gould as he alternately plays or explicates, his voice, allegro molto staccato, itself a study in rhythmic variations.
