In this program, statisticians in Barcelona use statistical models to trace the cause of asthma outbreaks. Data gathered from hospital admission records is placed on a time series clock, from which times, frequency, and general locations of outbreaks are plotted. Calculations pinpoint serious outbreaks to a specific waterfront district. When dried soybean shells are found in the district, statisticians check dock manifests and discover that large soybean deliveries occurred on those days. The problem is ultimately traced to a faulty filtering system on a soybean storage silo. Produced by the Open University. (25 minutes)
