The music presented comes from Zimbabwe’s regional melting pot. It combines traditional rhythms with a modern African sound. Musicians Biggie Tembo and Ephat Mujuru explain the musical style of Ngorimba—a musical genre whose songs reflect Zimbabwe’s troubled history of colonialism, liberation, and political upheaval. Live performances highlight the use of traditional instruments, including the ngoma (drums), hosho (rattles), and mbira. Lyrics to many songs, translated into English, provide insights into Zimbabwean culture—past and present. A BBC Production. (61 minutes)
